Phenomenon of Stress and the Causes of its Occurrence in Applicants for Higher Education

Abstract

The thesis analyzes the phenomenon of stress and the main causes of its occurrence among applicants for higher education in conditions of uncertainty and social transformation. The theoretical foundations of the concept of stress are considered through the scientific approaches of W. Cannon and H. Selye, and the physiological mechanisms of the stress response are characterized. Particular attention is paid to the psychological characteristics of student age and the factors that contribute to increased stress levels among students. Academic workload, social adaptation, personal challenges, financial difficulties, and changes in lifestyle are identified as the main stressors affecting the psycho-emotional state of higher education applicants.
